I think we are in a world of waning influence of the MSM regulars 2% of the population watches primetime news on a busy night I would argue we are moving towards, or in, a world where the digital gatekeepers have more influence

Reminds me of Malcolm Gladwell's Ted Talk. When you ask people what kind of coffee they like, they say "a dark/rich/hearty roast". In reality, by the numbers, everyone actually likes "a milky, weak coffee", but would never come out and say that.

I would love to see a network analysis on per person level -social and noraml media. - apply like PageRank to it and find out who the real opinion makers are. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some form of exponential distribution: like 50 people creating 95% of all memes.
