No. Raising “quality” of data after the fact IS fudging Good scientists (not even close to “all”) understand there are uncertainties at all stages of science, including errors in recording, and their statistical analysis and conclusions reflect that uncertainty.

Depends on the situation. If you used inaccurate past data to predict today's temperatures with your model, correcting the data inputs is all you need.

Am I reading this right? Scientists can't refine their models/experiments after they have initially posted results? What are we suggesting here? That they just find a new field of study or go work somewhere else? This "fudging" definition certainly smells like bull...fudge
