Many of us do not understand how one can “improve the quality of data”. Either you measured it or you didn’t. The measurements have error bars. The measurements with the broadest error bars can be discarded. But how do you “adjust” bad data to make it good without more data?

Is there an analogy in the business world where you measured something poorly, but then “improved the quality” of it and now trust the result?
