Trans people don’t choose their birth situation. But they can adjust it. An athlete likewise can fix any health or body issue to improve performance. Example: treating asthma.

Right. Why have a word for cheating? There would be no such thing as cheating.

Unless I am mistaken, Scott’s point is it’s ok to press any and every advantage in a competition. That sets up a conflict between socialists / SJWs who support trans to compete, and the presupposition of their entire worldview, which is that we have to level the playing field.

Jason I get that it's triggering to leftists to support a completely unleveled playing field. But the conflict goes both ways. Because the logical conclusion to a completely unleveled playing field is the absence of rules all together. And that's unsettling to conservative values

Which is weird because leftists are disgusted by rigidity on one hand but yet demand that everyone rigidly adhere to rules that put everyone in fair and equal playing fields.

Exactly. It shakes up the mental / emotional foundations and integrates the results *on both sides.* He doesn’t know how it will play out, but it’s the process that’s important here. Scott’s aim - again, UIAM - is to reduce the division and partisanship in the country.

I'm finding that on this topic, others are somehow more articulate at describing Scott's aims than he is...a highly unusual situation in my experience listening to Scott on many other topics. Just to be on the safe side, I'd prefer to here this directly from Scott.

I can’t be sure, but as someone with a similar skill set, I see that as most likely. If so, I doubt he would explicitly confirm because that sometimes creates resistance. (That’s also why I explained it here in a minor end branch instead of in a more visible post)

Yes, good point. I've wondered if Scott's seeming fuzziness on this whole issue is simply a way to create energy around this topic that stimulates discussion. If so, mission accomplished.

It is simpler. I’m calling out the illusions in politics wherever I spot them. On this topic, it is an illusion that allowing transgender athletes to compete makes the world less “fair.” It only changes who wins.

It seems that people arguing against are often hallucinating a total takeover of women’s sports that would negate the original purpose of gender segregation. In reality, it such a small number of people, there’s no such impact. If there was, could add a new league.

I don’t know... I think in a recent weight lifting competition the top two winners were born males.

Ah ok that may be the rub on this one - most people think it’s not “fair” if someone in a particular category has no chance of winning. I.e. born-male athletes make it so born-female athletes have no chance at winning (trans or not) so they think that isn’t “fair.”

Instead of fairness we could think of it as giving women an opportunity to participate in sports and win. Allowing transgenders to dominate the top level might reduce female participation and motivation (feeling like they have no chance to win).

By letting this nonsense in gender equality all play out identity zealots will eventually realize that genders are NOT equal, by looking at the winners of the competition?

All social norms are an illusion.. That doesn't make them arbitrary or subjective. Norms are about a relationship. By definition, that cannot be subjective. . The objectivity in social norms is found in their intent.

Most "sports" are "games". Games require rules. Lebron would be a nobody if we changed up a few rules. In sports, big goal is competitiveness. If the rules help predict close games (exciting) then proceed accordingly with rules to set that stage. If not.Change for other outcome
