This is where an understanding of diety is necessary. Eternity superceeds time and space. Logically God must be immaterial, universal, and unchanging to account for reality. Thus why Paul corrected the Greek view of what a "god" is in Acts 17.

Yes, but that is not ultimate reality. That just pushes the question back another layer. Eventually a non-material, self-existent, eternal being has to be at the end of the road. What we commonly call God.
