I predicted years ago that "moderate drinking is healthy" was junk science because whenever it is possible for industry to fund biased studies, the payoff is immense, and the risk is minimal, it happens every time. https://twitter.com/SurferChicify/status/1101931601779412997 …

That was the same study you cited above as meaningful.

I rarely if ever consider an individual study credible. I agree with this one for my own reasons and predict confirmation in the long run.

I've noticed teetotalers and vegans tend to preach in similar fashion. Looks to me like it has to do more with being morally right, rather than semantically and factually accurate. Yep....just like that.

Alcohol is like nonprocreative sex or points in a videogame. It's useless, costly, risk inducing. It's also kind of an end goal by itself, at least for people who enjoy it. It's one of life's purpose to drink fine alcohol if you have a taste for them.

My grandfather was a teetotaler who died at 77. My father is a lifetime moderate drinker who will turn 89 this year. I’m going to give heavy weight to my personal genetics and judge that abstinence is unnecessary, for me, and I that can ignore population studies.
