Your proposition that eradication of privacy is good for society. I do agree that when we choose to expose secrets— LGBTQ, pot or whatever, we make those secrets lose their power or shame.

The power of protecting personally identifiable information against processing in violation of the fair information principles enumerated in law & culture globally protects basic human autonomy. Law enforcement is a factor but not the only critical requirement.

PII is not the sacrosanct thing that we wish it to be. I worked the 2010 decennial as a mid-level supervisor (& as a retired programmer/analyst). Commerce has strict rules about PII - yet I heard anecdotes about felony violations. Observe the leaking of the Cohen IRS records.
