This climate argument looks persuasive to me. Is there a counter-argument?https://twitter.com/patbhamilton/status/1100131542045806592 …

No. Raising “quality” of data after the fact IS fudging Good scientists (not even close to “all”) understand there are uncertainties at all stages of science, including errors in recording, and their statistical analysis and conclusions reflect that uncertainty.

Improving quality of data is fudging? Word salad time, I'm out.

Except it is a emotionally charged issue and therefore ppl making changes to a data set have to ensure it’s for valid scientific reasons.

Not entirely true data can be discarded if it fails QA/QC, or a statistical Q test. Data cannot be improved, any manipulation introduces and compounds errors .

Is a scientist virtuous, by virtue of being a scientist? Anyone, who adjusts, rather than dismisses, individual data points found to be suspect long after their collection, on anything taking more than simple caliberation correction & calls it science, isn't honest.

No scientist openly approves of fudging. Could there be scientists who, if offered large grants on the condition of fudging, find a way to justify fudging? How would you know, because you can't penetrate behind the scientific vale?

How's that not begging the question? The item under discussion is whether the adjustments actually improve the quality or whether they improperly promote one outcome ("fudging"). Just asserting that the adjustments are valid/good doesn't address the question. Petito principii.
