Political corrections came from Mao. Public shaming is an intrinsic part of all socialist societies. Same with freedom of speech. God forbid people start talking about what's actually going on with the 5 year plan or our collectivised hospitals.

I can't say these bureaucracies are a feature of all Socialist countries, but I can say that it's hard to get the economics of Socialism without also getting the ideology. Perhaps this is the sticking point?
