The US has by far the best temperature data set in the world. In my new video and accompanying blog post, I detail how the US data is massively altered by @NOAA and @NASA to turn a long term cooling trend into warming. @ScottAdamsSayshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgk3xFHvWLE …

"Tampered" indicates intent, versus "adjusted for reasons we explain for all to see." I don't believe intent to deceive is in evidence. The Climategate emails do not do that.

Steve Goddard is correct when he says there is a scarcity of data outside the US. And huge numbers of stations have dropped out since 1990. There is no temperature record for most of the world but the calculate GAT from a grid of the world mostly populated by estimated data.

Wouldn't ocean buoys be the gold standard for this? I don't believe they have been adjusted. One study indicated that as few as 18 well-placed buoys would tell you everything you need to know. More wouldn't help the accuracy.

Except the Argo system was not deployed and operational until the 2000s. Pror to that they placed themometers in engine cooling intakes (wow no bias there). There are huge problems with that methodology and how they integrate the data......

And 18 such buoys would yield a better picture if their positions were fixed. They are not. They drift. And ocean temperature just as on the land varies greatly from spot to spot.

The Argo system is state of the art. There are 4000 or so of them. Which sounds like a lot. But then again how many ships are sailing per day? The oceans are big places.

Recent study says 18 would be enough for an accurate sample.
