The debate may be a giant mess, but the reality is not. When we debate we forget there is a reality out there. The most persuasive action would be to fly a few contrarians out to the GBR and scuba dive for a couple of weeks. Talk to the marine biologists doing active work.

I think everyone should get a chance to dive in the Great Barrier Reef. I got a chance to dive in the reefs off Cancun many years ago. Really fantastic experience.

Good thing to do. Not what it was, and will be increasingly less so. Conditions look promising to avoid a major bleaching bout this season, at least. But burn it all, right rev? :) An irony that burning the FF candle hotter drains the color from the world, vs. illuminating it.

I think we've agreed to disagree on your equivalence of pollution and energy. It is not real in any fundamental physical sense; seems clearly central in a philosophical or conceptual sense to you. Had we taken action in 1988, we'd likely have both. No need to rehash.

Lots of ways to get energy without CO2 emissions, from nuclear to carbon capture, and they'd be in wider use elevating economies, and with more tech advances, if fossil fuels hadn't successfully fended off pricing or regulation of their pollution (i.e. successful rent seeking).

My prediction: There will be some cool carbon capture technologies coming online in the next few decades.
