Hey Scott, I see what you mean about the illusion of DYI research.
But wouldn't the ultimate conclusion of that thinking be to never research anything, because you'll just believe the same thing you started with? Especially if you disagreed in the 1st place?

He's said a lot of useful things that have helped me in my job and life. Like, how do I know if my "facts" are biased? Make a prediction based on my perception. If it turns out wrong, my perception of the facts must have been wrong. You might want to give it a try.

Where do personal observations fall? For example, to me, La Jolla Cove and Santa Monica Bay look remarkably similar to 30-40 years ago, contradicting scientific reports of rising sea levels. Observations too localized?
