Who cares? It's twenty years ago, we have more recent and more accurate data today.

How did they get "more accurate data" from the past? Do you believe someone at NASA went back in time to 1934 and collected new data?

I assume the answer is better proxies, but then one must ask how the proxies are calibrated. Against what?

Proxies were most likely calibrated against the best funding source's goals.

This is not proxy data. It is thermometer readings from the most complete and accurate data set in the world - the United States Historical Climatology Network. 1,218 stations spread fairly evenly around the lower 48 states.

When the global warming cultists do not get the results they want, they reject the proxy data as inaccurate. That’s the easiest thing to do in that case.

No - the answer as I understand it is to take account of methodology changes (eg equipment upgrades, time of measurement), & changes to location/number of measuring stations to make a coherent data set. They could equivently adjust present day data; mathematically equivalent.

The only way those points should be moving is if a weather station had incomplete data and then reported it later. Too much data is changing for that. What they're doing is imputing the missing and disagreeing values with a model.

Of course it’s proxy data. Trending is by definition proxy data. He reason the trending changes is because we collect more data, not because the trending is recalibrated. I’m sure @ScottAdamsSays can attest calculating with a float and a double will give you different results.
