Yes, there is publication bias, but if there was indeed 97% consensus in climate research, what would be the career value of another paper that just replicates the 97%? A solid and convincing rebuttal of the existing data/methods/evidence would be much more impactful.

If such a paper got published and later could not be reproduced (which is common), the scientist who published would be seen as a denier nut. Compare to finding a new proxy that shows warming is extra-scary.
