Inadvertently, I’ve discovered that some of my followers believe there is no “Open Borders” movement. They believe no one has proposed Open Borders. I just don’t know what to make of this. Does the WSJ not exist?? Do search engines live in my imagination?? Anyone? A little help.

I'd respectfully suggest that decades of stagnant median wages indicate that our employment situation isn't actually working as well as it could. And it's highly plausible that mass unskilled immigration is suppressing working/lower class wages

We have an open border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. You just walk or drive across as you wish. Here is a picture of it (it's where the speed sign is).pic.twitter.com/MKjPxtyb97

This thread seems very "2 movies". There are several different ways "open borders" can be interpreted (or "resolved" in computer parlance): e.g. free movement using visas, totally free movement with no checks at all. FWIW, when I hear the term, I interpret is as "no checks".

Not a discussion of what your for, but whether there's a sizable cohort that desires it. Terrorists and criminals are tacitly exempt as criminal law still applies with open borders.

That's the problem with the proposed amendment; any restriction that one dislikes can deemed an impediment to an open border. It's either poorly thought-out or intentionally vague, and the media is too untrustworthy to rule out the latter.

Scott, this isn’t remotely persuasive. Assume you have the label or string “Open Borders” and you bind it to a large & influential movement. Then you have a large & influential “Open Borders” movement. It’s that simple. Also the movement itself eschews nuance: it’s just 5 words.

I don’t care for whack-a-mole persuasion. You can admit that you are just wrong on this point. Not wrong as a person or a mind. You are simply wrong on a matter of decidable fact. What I‘m waking up to is that there are a huge number of folks, all wrong on this one weird point.

What you're saying is what most open border advocates mean when they say open borders. Of course you don't just add a mindless worker, you get a person with their own traditions, culture, language, family...etc

I have to agree with Scott on this. Open borders is what we have *within* the United States. There are almost no restrictions whatsoever. I imagine that very few people truly support open borders.
