That is not a true statement. Tree-ring reconstructions do match instrumental records prior to 1960. Have you ever thought that other factors might affect tree-ring growth besides temperature? People are not familiar with the science. https://www.skepticalscience.com/Tree-ring-proxies-divergence-problem.htm …

Well obviously you can't use deep-sea coring proxies on land, and you can't use tree ring proxies in the ocean. I suppose you want to use as many proxies as are available then cross-check them. If they match, you get a higher level of confidence of the trends.

Similar to my 4 algorithm analogy: If 4 programmers write 4 independent methods to calculate something, 1 does not always match the other 3, then most likely the 1 is wrong. You fix it or replace it with another method. If all 4 matches, then you have good confidence.

"Tree-ring reconstructions are reliable before 1960, tracking closely with the instrumental record and other independent proxies" https://www.skepticalscience.com/Tree-ring-proxies-divergence-problem.htm …

I don't know about you Jeff but this is a shocker that persuades me the other way. Let me rephrase it "Tree-ring don't match the period where we have good measures but we're pretty sure they're good with the period where we don't".
