If you're not using the block button liberally, you're using twitter wrong. You're not being open-minded, you're just letting your time, attention & timeline be stolen by whoever values their time low enough to waste it shouting nonsense at you.

Being open-minded means seeking to expose yourself to new ideas; it does not mean masochistically letting any idiot who signed up to an account on twitter take up your time with things that don't interest you or bitter old arguments. Block more so you can be exposed to new ideas.

If you ignore or mute instead of blocking, your mentions will inevitably get flooded with sick obsessives and silly self-promoters. Twitter becomes unusable & you'll miss out on intelligent interactions in the flood of garbage, just to appease open-mindedness virtue-signallers.

If everyone was openly more trigger-happy with blocking, it would raise the level of discourse on Twitter by making it clear to idiots, trolls & obsessives their time-wasting will only succeed in making their account unusable. They'll behave better with their new accounts.

If people understood that signing up for an account on twitter does NOT entitle you to people's time, and that wasting someone's time would stop you from ever interacting with them or seeing their tweets in your TL, there'd far fewer dumb tweets on here. ALL YOU NEED IS BLOCK!

There are millions of accounts on twitter and you'll never get exposed to 1% of them. Blocking one account doesn't reduce the number of accounts you interact with, it increases the number of new accounts you get exposed to, allowing you to actually get exposed to new ideas.
