This one is pretty secure (double checked it) but also pretty partial in time and space. It's one town, one month. I just think it illustrates well that in Middle East, alliances are more often shifting than sticking.

Still there seem to be invariants such as Kurds stands on their own no matter the country they live in. I assume there are structural reasons for this to be a stable state over time, like the ones illustrated above. Own military, shifting alliances.

I read quite a few articles like this over time and that taught me that whatever they indicate is quickly obsolete at best. As I am not from there my compromise is to consider the invariant are shifting alliances and not that shifting powers in place.
