Things you never see in the news (2): Climate scientists and skeptical scientists TOGETHER debating climate models.

Given that the public is not entirely convinced, wouldn't you like to see the climate scientists demolish the skeptics on the same stage?

No because it would give the deniers credibility. Its like having a debate on whether the world is flat.

the only way to stop climate change is to have limousine liberals fly around the globe talking about how to tax carbon foot prints

This thread is fascinating. It has me wondering if this is how people in general think science works. Do people who have not studied science think scientific arguments are won by debate?

I agree wholeheartedly that one should question models. I don't see the value of a debate. Science has great processes for eliminating bad theories and models. Debate is not one of them. I do agree with @ScottAdamsSays that debate is a useful tool for persuasion.

Science has a great process for eliminating bad models? I think that is almost certainly not the case.

Finding evidence that falsifies a theory is one way to eliminate a bad model. Phlogiston and ether theories were eliminated by experiment, not debate.

Thank you for reminding this. For the same reason, a science that fails to predict is no science at all, no matter what economists or climatologists tell you 😊

No, another way to eliminate a bad economic model is to have enough people lose money on it to realize they need a new one. People, businesses, organizations, and governments are investing now based on implicit and explicit bets on climate models. Some will win, some will lose.

All of modern engineering and medicine depends on good models that replaced bad models. Take a look at the list at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superseded_theories_in_science … and tell me which models were deprecated by debate, instead of evidence and experiment.

Scott your ignorance is showing. Science is a process for creating and validating models. If the model fails a prediction, it’s discarded. If it predicts it’s kept. You’re “reality filter” concept is like science, but without rigorous testing and validation.
