Your example reminds me of how @ScottAdamsSays annoys me by stating the use of analogy means the lack of an argument. They are rhetorically useful as propadeutic to thought, and exist on a continuum of false analogy to tautology. @Steve_Sailer

I(was) with your thinking, studied analogies loved them. Then I started following SA and found his premise correct. When you attempt to persuade w/ analogies you endup debating/arguing the analogy. He says they are good for introducing new concepts but not persuading
