Interesting hypothesis, but I’m not convinced. Fiction is universal, and fundamental to the notion of human intelligence. We’re the only species that communicates important ideas in fictional frameworks. I don’t think you can neatly delineate political thought that way.

Your comic has a talking dog in it. Most fiction writers take inspiration from real life people or events. Good ones do anyway.

So why exactly do you think scientists enjoy fiction less than others? Anecdotally, based on what I hear from labmates, seems unlikely to be true. Most people who I know who read a ton of non-fiction aren't in STEM but want people to think they know a lot about science.
