Interesting hypothesis, but I’m not convinced. Fiction is universal, and fundamental to the notion of human intelligence. We’re the only species that communicates important ideas in fictional frameworks. I don’t think you can neatly delineate political thought that way.

You're only really famous for writing fiction: most people only know you as the guy who wrote those funny office comics. Most of your fans, therefore, are people who like fiction. Anecdotally, most scientists that I know personally love fiction.

There's a HUGE overlap between people who loved Jurassic Park and people who ended up in biology, for example. Plenty of astronomers, physicists, and engineers are big on sci-fi too. Have you never noticed this?
