Lots of my scientist friends and I read a ton of non-fiction and are liberal. I was talking yesterday about a non-fiction book I finished and recommended to a liberal scientist.

Fiction? You mean like presidential tweets or the GOP platform?

My to-read list has 14 non-fiction and 4 fiction (list was started about a month ago and has one crossed off - the non-fiction mentioned previously). This doesn't include scientific papers, however, which stands at 9 in the last week if we're talking overall reading profile.
-
Some of these may incorporate fiction into their narratives - Physics for Future Presidents, for example is non-fiction, as is Science of Star Wars.

Interesting hypothesis. I am an engineer, conservative (mostly), read lots of fiction (mostly Sci-Fi), dislike non fiction. Empathy is not my strong suit, so not sure I agree with your premise.
-
I also have SEVERAL friends and colleagues who don't conform to this hypothesis on both sides. Maybe it needs data. A LARGE set of data. With statistical validation.

So your argument is that fiction-reading in any real amount leads to liberalism, regardless of other factors? You've got a "one-drop" rule but for fiction consumption? Even if this was a reasonable stance, what points could possible be extrapolated from this?
-
Your criticism of your mischaracterizarion of my opinion is solid.
