I have a paperback since this spring. Did I buy a counterfeit?

Here it is on Amazon attached to your personal brand and Penguin Putnam. Perhaps you can get it removed. If you apply for AMZ Brand Registry you can ensure exclusivity in the future. https://www.amazon.com/dp/052553332X/

Looks like someone sold you a used paperback that was a reviewer release?

Hmm. No it was new. Here is the purchase info including seller if it helps. Bigger problem is that you can still buy it in paperback today.pic.twitter.com/Px0q15qjNR

Did you buy from Amazon USA or another country? Paperback in some other countries I believe.

Given that the paperback version was not produced for the USA, and Amazon wouldn't host fakes (as far as I know), I'm baffled.

Now I suspect: Books get published hardcover only for US, paperback for some international, on launch day your publisher only claims hardcover slot, another seller ships pallets of paperback back to US and hijacks the paperback variant. I see it with other new books now.
