If someone finds they are being consistently misinterpreted does that not, at least in part, say something about their ability to convey ideas to their audience? Particularly if that person writes in a professional capacity. Maybe it's not everybody else's fault?

Correct! It can mean one of two things. Either the writer is terrible at the job of writing or he is so persuasive that he triggers cognitive dissonance on the regular.
