I think @ScottAdamsSays is mostly right about persuasion and facts not mattering in that context
However, I have found when I present people with a sound *argument* (not “facts”) for a dissenting position, they are often open to being persuaded.

When I was a misguided leftist youth, my conservatarian friend would make sound arguments that incited emotions in me bc I didn't have a strong response. That was a seed that got me thinking and observing until I eventually came around to his views...
