The problem is that the counter-argument is “that’s a lie,” but stupid people don’t understand that you cannot spend all day explaining basic economics to people who start from the assumptions of the lie in the first instance and are thus uneducable. https://twitter.com/scottadamssays/status/1005922978863992833 …

I simply asked the public to provide a link describing trade with Canada in a way we citizens can judge as fair or unfair. No one passed the test. I'm sure Tom would like to see such a link too. Wouldn't you?

You could find people who are experts on these things and follow them on Twitter

So far, the experts I have seen just spew data without context. I could follow a thousand of them and learn nothing. I just want one clear article. Just one.

OK i think this guy's a dick, but didn't someone say that any expert should be able to explain their concepts very simply. yes, he probably won't listen. But it is in the interest of the electorate for even the most basically educated to be able to understand what's going on.

Simple explanation is not the same as a single, concise summary. Mr. Adams wants someone to give him a single link or Twitter thread that explains the nuances, complexities, and context of int'l trade. 1/x

No, I want a link that gives me a useful overview without the complexity.

How about: We consume more crap than we ship overseas hence the trade imbalance.

Because of tariffs?

No. We consume a more than we produce. We also run a huge budget deficit. We finance our consumption with cheap debt. Let’s say we decided no more imports. We’d produce stuff we now buy overseas. Inflation would increase dramatically and our exporting businesses would die.

And then what would happen after that?
