The problem is that the counter-argument is “that’s a lie,” but stupid people don’t understand that you cannot spend all day explaining basic economics to people who start from the assumptions of the lie in the first instance and are thus uneducable. https://twitter.com/scottadamssays/status/1005922978863992833 …

I've invested several hours looking for a useful summary of the US-Canada trade situation so I can judge its fairness. I believe such a summary doesn't exist. And I have so far demonstrated that lots of folks believe they have seen it but have not.

This is an ancient Twitter tactics: demand evidence, and then dismiss all the evidence you’ve been given as “not evidence.” You were given references. Read them. Do your homework and then you can come back and talk to the experts again.

I'll assume you're not being deliberately obtuse. Here's a wikipedia page I found in <1 minute: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada%E2%80%93United_States_trade_relations …. Start there. But it's a $600B+ trading relationship annually, so one summary article isn't going to be enough, and what are your criteria for fairness?
-
There are no criteria for fairness, only that they can positively, in all aspects, say that we are "winning."

Here's the text of NAFTA. You can read it, learn about the various industries involved and the various effects on them. Or you can look to people who do that for a living... https://www.nafta-sec-alena.org/Home/Texts-of-the-Agreement/North-American-Free-Trade-Agreement …

It’s super simple: Canada’s subsidized lumber puts US lumber mills out of business. Canada puts the $ in US banks where it is loaned out to payday lenders for advances on unemployment checks so they can purchase a cheap toaster made in China.
