The problem is that the counter-argument is “that’s a lie,” but stupid people don’t understand that you cannot spend all day explaining basic economics to people who start from the assumptions of the lie in the first instance and are thus uneducable. https://twitter.com/scottadamssays/status/1005922978863992833 …

There have been any number of economists and trade experts here on Twitter *for days* who have provided the data showing that our trade with Canada is balanced and fair. You choose to ignore it, because that’s how people like you “argue.”

The only trade deficit occurs when you consider re-exported goods. That is goods from other countries that get shipped into Canada (or Mexico) to be reshipped as NAFTA exports to the US. 1/ https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/americas/canada …

Depends on what you regard as fair. What's truly fair is voluntary trade betw individuals. How govts interfere w that is varied. Tariffs are one way ie taxing their own citizens for purchasing something from a foreign country > making its price higher > to protect domestic co's.

There are millions of data points, find’em yourself & analyze’em yourself. It’s not my job as a statistician to teach you how to find objective data— though I *could* give you advice on how to analyze & interpret it correctly.

Reality isn't fair or unfair. Fairness is a human concept. Humans can't agree on what it means. Everything else moves along without reference to fairness. To understand U.S trade with Canada, study trade. Or don't study trade and decide you are owed expertise in a soundbite.
