"First-hand knowledge is critical" is the sort of advice that would have prevented Steve Jobs from creating Apple, prevented me from creating Dilbert, and prevented Musk from creating any of his businesses. Better: "First-hand knowledge can be a mental prison."https://twitter.com/oneunderscore__/status/1000557665347670018 …

see how he compared creating comic characters to large world changing technologies and companies? That is what Scott calls persuassion. that is what I call manipulation.

I don’t think Scott was comparing the three. They are just three examples that fit the equation. Since Scott has personal knowledge of one of them it was perfectly natural to include it. To think was comparing the three together is ridiculous.

correct, scott was not comparing them - the readers who fall for the persuasion does, almost unconsciously. Scott just "linked them" and he lets delusion do the rest, by linking them he reinforces the credibility of what scott tweets about. that is how persuasion works

It’s manipulative and I believe he is creating a credibility around dishonest communication that does not exist.

Let's cut through it quickly. What is Scott's intention? That is what I am focusing on. Impressing people that divisive, dishonest communication is admirable is fraught with confusion (and feeds on confusion).

This kind of persuasion is in everything from politics to advertising.

as well as tweets from average everyday peeps. "persuasion" as scott uses it is just the practice of deception without lying directly at face value.

It’s roughly as deceptive as wearing nice clothes.

You just made "farming" and "deception" mean the same thing semantically. words are not descriptions of things, they are prescriptions for things.
