While partly true, that's also partly misleading. I would say your, Steve Jobs', and Elon Musk's creativity is critically influenced by respective first-hand knowledge and experiences. However, great minds always perceive & leverage truth beyond what's only accessible first-hand.

The problem with Ben Collin's comment is its inherent and snide assumption that first-hand knowledge of the manufacturing process is necessary for anyone to be able to evaluate the quality, functionality, or veracity of a product. That is patently false.
