Just finished a lecture on the importance of #wetlands as a natural climate solution so I put together this slide. Really makes you realise how wetlands have been vilified over the years (and countless other examples from literature too) - great films though!

Canada just surpassed 4 million hectares burned this year. For comparison, last year only 28 thousand hectares had burned by June 7th. That’s an increase of about 14400%. Wow!

Identifying sedges. We’re back in the same wet woodland where we have had Carex remota, C. acutiformis and C. pendula. Today’s plant is like a scaled-back version of C. pendula; it’s tussocky with hairless utricles, 3 stigmas and droopy female spikes, which puts it in Key E.

Something I didn’t anticipate after losing my dad is the amount of times I go to text him and then suddenly just ‘remember’. Especially at the moment with all the wildfires everywhere (including in Scotland) - he used to be a fireman and spent many hours fighting moor fires.
