But @rabovitz can ML Optical See-Through architecture render Black in bright sunlight? That was point of original tweet with log AR demo. I still think Video See-Through #AR leads adoption on this fact alone...

I can say this - it would be a mistake to assume video pass through is the only pathway. Direct view of the world is far superior to seeing it through video.

It would also be a mistake to assume video pass through isn’t a viable solution, and possibly a better near term solution. Would you agree?

If you listen to the guys working on #AR for 30+ years (DoD, Enterprise, Consumer) they will tell you Video See-Through #AugmentedReality is what’s coming: https://youtu.be/el2IWYfEaCQ  Trade offs for #waveguides too great ...

I don't doubt that it's coming… in DoD and Enterprise. I say here in this debate over and over, it's a fine solution for the enterprise… just not as a consumer smartglasses device. Nobody is going to walk around in public with an opaque display on their face.

That’s a pretty big assumption. Many sunglasses are basically opaque to everyone but the person wearing them. It could be cool if the headset has a screen on the outside and you could customize what your eyes look like. With eye tracking the eyes could match your own.

What Silicon Valley thinks is acceptable "styling" and what the public does is an unbridgeable gap. If a video-thru device succeeds as a mass market, everyday wear smartglasses product, you can pull up this debate and ask me to eat crow. I have no fears of that happening.

I never said a video through device would be an everyday wear device. There's a HUGE room for devices you would just wear in entertainment context while sitting in your living room, or devices you would wear while sitting at your desk for work as a monitor replacement.

Look at it this way, Apple always comes in late to markets, never early. Magic Leap is still very early. Apple won't compete with that. But Oculus Quest? Apple could destroy that next year with a far superior device. That's what I'm expecting now.

Yeah, and since then Apple has recovered. Short term stock prices don't mean anything to this discussion, by the way. Disclosure: I own a small amount of Apple stock. I'd own Magic Leap too, if it were in public markets. I'm bullish on both.

Kopin is a good bet. They make damn fine microdisplays. I’ve never been THAT impressed with their finished modules, but I’ve seen BOE’s AR/VR roadmap for the next couple of years, and if Kopin is supplying their backplanes, that should be really great revenue.

I would like your thoughts on How does Magic Leap survive burning 60/70/80m per month? No consumer market revenue stream n sight to offset that level of losses In addition, how do they compete in Hololens & AAPL market on top of it? Plus massive dilution needed & u would invest?

Investing isn't for the meek. I can see a few paths to major commercial success. I see many paths to failure too.
