It's because the flog was intended to be an "omamori" for Iwata, or an amulet asking for a blessing. You don't open an omamori, or else you lose its benefits. When people found the Golf Iwata tribute, they "opened" the omamori. It's all about their culture.

I wonder if the programmer(s) included it without telling the higher-ups, and in turn were asked to remove it after everyone discovered and publicized it? That's probably not the case, but if it is, it'd be a shame.
