      Switch 3.0.1 fixed sm:h/smhax http://switchbrew.org/index.php?title=Switch_System_Flaws&type=revision&diff=2111&oldid=2008 … -- bug that allows for access/registration/unregistration to/of any arbitrary service.

It can't be understated how big this bug was. If you want switchhax, don't update to 3.0.1. It might take significantly longer if you do.

No. The switch has anti-downgrade fuses.

If the switch can't be downgraded, then the hack will have to be updated.

ARMS/MK8D/Splatoon 2 required the update to play online, I'm quite sure that 90% of the Switches out there are on 3.0.1 now.

Genuinely unfortunate for those switches, then. Their owners made a bad call if they wanted hax, heh.

Could you buy a new switch and use the gamecard updates to update from 1.x to a version below 3.0.1?

You can update with game carts still, yeah. I have a video of updating with the Splatoon cartridge.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=If-XHUIfrio …

I saw that video, I was just unsure if it was really the gamecard, i don't get why Nintendo even ships Switches/Cards with version >1.0.0.

3.0 was out at the time of the video and it only updated me to 2.3.0, it also had a separate popup when putting it in. Probably the cart.

I think the reasoning is so you can get any OS features that might be needed for the game, so they ship with a minimum version. Same w/ 3DS.

Well yeah it could just prompt you to go online though, but I get that it does enable a fully offline console which is good for consumers.

The wii u flopped because it wasn't marketed well amongst other things. I know many people who thought it was an add on to the original wii.
