Hey, Twitterverse! Join me in wishing a very Happy 459th Birthday today to Francis Bacon! And, this year also marks the 400th anniversary of the first publication of his "Novum Organum Scientiarum", an early contribution to what is today known as the scientific method.

This expectation of simple answers causes all kinds of problems, and not just when it comes to explaining scientific principles.

Yeah but also, I think sometimes there’s an expectation from readers that there SHOULD be a really simple intuitive explanation and there just isn’t, and that makes readers suspicious! When really, like, stuff is hard. There’s a reason we spend decades in school.

Yeah, these kinds of “scientists are baffled!” articles really bug me. Just because something is complicated and hard to explain doesn’t mean that we don’t understand it.

I think the title should be: "There's not a one line phrase that explains how airplanes fly" The article really focuses on how to explain wing lift - not that we don't understand it.

Hi, Twitterverse! I know we can get a bit discouraged with all the negativity on here, but I just wanna say that I think the majority of you are really cool and thank you for frequently brightening my day with your awesomeness!
