The Northern Lights in HDR! Watch:🎬https://youtu.be/r5t-V0lEQ5o A short film, clips from 2 weeks of chasing the Aurora in Fairbanks, Alaska (Aug 27-Sept 12 2021) w/
Life goal: Get more yellow on this map. I have 8 US States left to visit, and 6 Canadian Provinces left! Filling in Mexico is the other life goal. Hello from Whitehorse, Yukon!
UPDATE: I had two cameras rolling for this meteor/aurora occurrence I captured over Prelude Lake. Colorful bolide took nearly 7 seconds in total to cross the sky. The A7S3/14mm combo caught the *entire* meteor! WOOH! #yellowknife
A clean view of my STEVE / Picket fence timelapses from last night! What the heck is with those J Hooks?!? Shot from Old Woman Bay, Ontario Canada 9/4/22 #northernlights
northern Michigan had a beautiful light show last night. Even an appearance from STEVE. Mad I didn't make the 4 hour drive. Naked eye visible but obviously not all the colors.
Another CME impact. And it looks like it's going to do some work! Near perfect timing for Northern Lights visible from Northern Europe (Where it's actually getting dark at night)
Why did last night fail? Eastern Europe had a wonderful display yesterday but North America didn't. Prolonged Negative Bz is the best early indicator whether to go outside and start looking from lower latitudes. Last night it went positive most of the night :( (2/2)
Tonight's (8/18pm-8/19am) Clouds vs potential Northern Lights viewing. Last night was a virtual 'No-Show' for North America, but aurora chances continue with the arrival of more solar storms expected. https://bit.ly/3PwFbsL 1/2
As darkness falls across North America, there won't likely be any northern lights immediately visible. This is a case where the chef's assembled every ingredient to bring Aurora south, but the oven's off. We need the Bz to trend and stay south a while! Keep an eye out. 🔗👇
Hit segment 1 of the Colorado Trail over the weekend. Here was the epic rain-filled sunset and sunkissed reverse sunrise from my campsite! #cowx#Colorado
Not sure how to capture Northern Lights on camera? Not sure if you have a camera that CAN? You very likely have one and don't even know it. Here's my northern lights photography and aurora timelapse guide on my channel!

Kp7 at local midnight. Least favorable conditions are in new England, Upper Great Lakes and the Dakotas. I'm *just* inside the view line so there's an opportunity for me here!
A barrage of CME's are impacting Earth, triggering northern lights as we speak in the far north! In all liklihood, this should recharge a few times over the next 72 hours. Kp values of 7 are predicted this evening by the SWPC. Forecast Clouds in the US and Canada vs a ... 1/2
Today's M-class flare had an coronal mass ejection that was impressive. We're still analyzing this, but this is likely Earth-directed too, the eighth such eruption in the last four days. Aurora watchers everywhere are probably in for an incredible display this week. I can't wait.
Twin strikes last night on Blodgett Peak. I haven’t ever had as successful monsoon shooting bolts as this one. This image blew me away since it has two main landing points and an upward streamer from the top
It's not over yet folks, We've just had a prolonged period of -Bz in otherwise favorable speeds & density. Overhead northern lights possible as far south as Sioux Falls and Rapid City in about 45 minutes. And we are still gaining!
Impact! Aurora tonight VERY LIKELY for Northern US and Southern Canada. A well forecasted CME has just arrived and so far everything about it is good. Large negative Bz and speeds up 700 Km/s Very likely Kp6 to Kp7 conditions will be coming shortly. Updated cloud/Aurora map.👇
CORRECTION: Updated/fixed cloud cover - Northern Lights prediction maps for this evening. (I used the wrong time on the Canadian model) General idea is that cloud cover will be mixed bag for much of the northern lower 48 and southern Canada.
Timing for impact is 00z to 06z, Which would mean just before dark to nearly midnight in NA. While we've had some well-predicted CME's arrive in the past couple years, we are at about a 50% success rate with them producing a good aurora show. 2/2
The Wrath of the Garden. A shot I didn’t think would ever be possible, but today it finally happened. A clear landing point on the rocks with a wall of rain above. I can’t believe this one actually happened.
Coming soon: US Tornadoes 1680-1880. By scrubbing through these years, one can see the evolution of tornado science, public attitude & knowledge, documentation, as well as the expansion of the U.S! @sigtor2019@NWSPC#wxtwitter Well done, Tornado Archive content team!
And we have LIFTOFF! A filament 100s of thousands of kms long blasted away and a CME is on its way. Could have a minor impact in a few days!? Aurora watchers, clear skies!🌞🤔✨🤩🤞🏻
Put a ring on it! 💍
