Here's a simple thought that was once considered noble; if you're wrong, admit it, learn from it, and move on. Then, if you feel so inclined, help others not to repeat the same mistake whilst respecting the human tendency to make them as inevitable.
It's not rocket science folks. It's old-fashioned, basic human decency. It's not very dramatic, or exciting, or Tweet worthy, or status boosting, but it does help communities function well, wherever they're located, & whatever size, from the Globe to a couple, to function better.
