Republicans have slowly chipped away at our democracy through unfair maps that allow them to pick their own voters, and ramped up their efforts to overturn Roe v Wade in the face of a Supreme Court that is hostile to reproductive freedom.

W/ redistricting around the corner & the onslaught of anti-choice & other damaging legislation, the stakes in our upcoming elections could not be higher -- which is why we are launching our largest-ever investment in state legislative elections through our Focus 2020 initiative.

We’re investing an unprecedented $20 million in the effort to hold majorities and flip chambers in crucial states by electing pro-choice Democratic women who will fight for policies supporting women and families, and be at the table to ensure that fair maps are drawn come 2021.

We are targeting more than 20 states, focusing on where the state legislatures have a direct impact on redistricting, where a woman’s right to choose is under attack and where changing demographics will open new opportunities for us in future elections.

This $20 million investment will include hiring additional staffers; increasing advanced level candidate training; giving more direct contributions to campaigns and like-minded progressive organizations; and expanding EMILY’s List digital outreach.

There’s rightly a lot of focus on the presidential race, but failing to crack the gerrymanders that Republicans installed after the 2010 midterm elections would be just as devastating to our democracy as the re-election of Donald Trump.

EMILY’s List will be working closely with women running for seats in state legislatures across the country from now until Election Day in 2020. We need to change the face of leadership in America & ensure once again that districts are truly representative of voters in each state.
