    Oh, I see. Yes, AdS spacetime plays a crucial role in conceptually explaining confinement in the gauge theory on its asympotic boundary. This is the original insight of Witten's (Sakai&Sugimoto built on that insight, whence now "Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto".

    An analogous brane configuration constructs 2d QCD (the 't Hooft model). Here color D4-branes become D2-branes & baryon D4-branes become D6-branes & meson fields now come from 3d CS. This variant of the Witten-Saki-Sugimoto model is due to Gao-Xu-Zeng06
