He was right. Importing cheap labor for the sole sake of profit increase is reprehensible.

He was absolutely wrong. Workers coming to developing countries see massive increases in their own prosperity, while helping their home countries *and* sending remittances back home. It's a win-win-win, and Sanders' nativism is the worst part of his platform.

In 1974, temporary worker programs were a little different from the H1B program of 2020. We were looking over our shoulders at the Bracero Program. Sanders would have been on the same side as Cesar Chavez and MLK Jr. because the Bracero Program really was horrific for workers.

It might also be worth pointing out that Vermont had its own history of (non-chattel) slavery based on debt bondage and contract servitude.
