I've been noticing some of the protective factors among working class and immigrant families that seem to shield kids from ROGD - I'm thinking about a lot of things. First of all, it's possible that when working class families realize their kid IDs as trans, they aren't seeking

help from a therapist who is private pay. Next, I wonder if they are more likely to keep it a secret and try to deal with the issue within the family. That being said, I'm getting convinced (due to my decade of working with minority and low income families) that something is

fundamentally different in the population of ROGD (wealthy/white). I'm not sure exactly what that is yet, but I'm working out theories. One important factor I feel confident about is that working class & immigrant kids have a lot of responsibilities within the home and play

a vital role in the operations of the family's daily life. Kids feel responsible to their siblings, to the household, and have a deeply interconnected dynamic w relatives. These are wonderful traits that create cohesion, bonds, and solidarity within a family.

I did a quick google search, trying to find research on what's positive or helpful about WC or immigrant family structure. I found NOTHING. Just articles, presumably written by academics and "privileged" people talking about the oppression of WC & discrimination against immgrnts

Don't deny these families could use support but found it baffling & patronizing that no one has studied the positive aspects of various immigrant family structures! As a POC I wonder where is the pride & gratitude is for various cultures & the impact on family life @IrshadManji

Therapy would help. You’d have to screen him, though (I’d suggest a man). So many psychological professionals are being bullied into accepting an Affirmation Only model, if you get one of those it would be worse. You need one with cajones, literally and figuratively.

I don’t think so. All the kids I know have and are glued to phones. I think what they do on their phones is likely very different. My school kids were watching more music videos, gossip celeb sites, etc
