    Playing the lottery is a valid and rational investment for the poor because, despite our myths about "hard work," nobody becomes a millionaire out of their three minimum wage 14 hour a week jobs. A 10 million to one chance is still better than fuck all.

    Unpopular opinion: Giving people shit about playing the lottery is classist. The basic math isn’t that difficult so get over yourself. People play the lottery because it allows them to fantasize about a better live when not much else in this society does.

    One of the difficulties in talking with Americans in particular about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is that many of them have, at best, a half-remembered high-school version of that history in their head, and the subject is typically not covered well in high school.
