Whenever we protest or speak out against Instacart's unfair treatment and worsening policies w/r/t contractors, there are always a few folks who don't know the story, and folks who ask if things are really that bad. Yes, they are REALLY that bad. 1/8

  3. One of our fellow gig workers has been busting her ass, but is still $51 short on money this week. She needs $51 or her phone will get shut off. If you have a few bucks, please consider donating. I just did. ♥️♥️♥️

  4. If you're a gig worker, you're always trying to catch up. You work a few more hours each week to try to bring in the same amount of $ you used to make. But it's neverending. Gig companies feed off this desperation. They know that the poorer we get, the more we'll work.

  5. New from . “On-Demand Everywhere: More Flexibility for all Shoppers” If the pay is still significantly below minimum wage, then it doesn't matter how the order is offered. It's pathetic attempt to fight AB5 and NOT a decent solution for workers

  6. Uber and Lyft offer their drivers special promo bonuses, for example "drive 15 rides this weekend and receive an extra $115." Once drivers get close to reaching the goal, Uber and Lyft block you from seeing any new rides.

This excellent article by (who also drives for Uber) explores all the health and safety risks/problems associated with this work. It also should concern Uber/Lyft riders who unknowingly put their bodies at risk. Worker rights are aligned with consumer safety!!!

  8. Postmates often falls under the radar but they've had TONS of scandals. They are trash. They continuously cut workers pay Restaurants that do NOT want to work with Postmates are still added to the app, often with outdated menus

  9. The founder of Postmates bragging about "making it" is the grossest thing I've seen this weekend. If you can't afford to pay your workers more than $2 an hour, and only got rich by exploiting them, then you are NOT a success story. You're a scammer.

They are trying so hard to equate basic employment rights w/ losing flexibility & it’s BS. You drive 60+ hrs/wk & barely pay rent, pay all your own car expenses & have zero safety net if you’re injured on the job or if a customer complains and they can you. Nope. Drivers know.

15 part-time Instacart employeees at a Skokie IL store voted today in an NLRB election to unionize with . Instacart says that "Pending certification of the election results, Instacart will honor the outcome" and "begin the process of negotiating in good faith" on a contract.

Breaking: A group of Instacart workers in Chicago just voted to unionize-- a historic first. This victory sends a powerful message to gig workers around the country who are fed up with working conditions.

Bathroom access is a universal right for employees of any company, but it's not for gig workers. and I spoke to gig workers, UberEats, DoorDash, and other delivery apps about the classist politics of who gets to use the restroom.

Just a reminder for passengers that Lyft would rather lie to you and say there are “no drivers available” than pay an available driver a little extra to come and pick you up.

  17. Instacart workers: the company is sending out a new contract. 🚨 Opt out of arbitration! 🚨 1. Send email to contractor-opt-out@instacart.com 2. Say "I, (your name), wish to opt out of the arbitration provision"

This is a systemic problem for drivers. If they use the restroom at the airport, they get ticketed. If they ask to use the toilet in ppls homes, they are put on blast. And even the restaurants who benefit from their labor won’t let them use the bathroom. It is so dehumanizing.

Gig exploitation math is very simple. IRS sets the standard mileage deduction every year based on avg costs for fuel, maintenance, tires, insurance, and depreciation. In 2019, it’s 58 cents/mile. Doordash pays $5 for 10 mile delivery INC tips. Net loss to driver: 80 cents.

Tech won't build it! Much love for the tech workers who take a (significant) risk to speak out against their bosses' harmful decisions❤️
