GAMING THINGS WE THINK ARE COOL!! - In Far Ear of Eden: Kabuki Klash, a fighting game based on the Tengai Makyou series of RPGs, mirror matches end with the defeated player turning into a kitsune / fox, known in Japanese folklore for shapeshifting into human form.
GIF
In Kabuki Klash: Far East of Eden, when a mirror match concludes, the losing player is revealed to be a kitsune (for women) or a tanuki (for men) impersonating the other character. Both are shapeshifters in Japanese folklore.

An IGS collection of 8 of their PGM arcade games is coming to Switch tomorrow in Japan? Including online play?! Hot damn, lots of Knights of Valor brawlers but official online Martial Masters sounds great!

Gals Panic is an arcade game by Kaneko where you reveal a picture of a woman stripping across several stages, eventually becoming nude, by playing a Qix clone.
In a Korean variant, the stages that should be nude pictures are all replaced with images of dinosaurs.

Now the PC ver's out, here's our favourite Sonic Mania reference!
The sun icon here is from Mega Drive manual warning sections!
GAMING THINGS WE THINK ARE COOL!! - Just some of the warning screens you get for putting SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium into a non-colour Neo Geo Pocket. They all use art you won't see anywhere else.
The Street Fighter Alpha OVA from 2000 contains a pretty substantial cameo from Bandai's WonderSwan and its port of Pocket Fighter- Sakura's playing it in the hospital scene about halfway through the film. She's an Ibuki player, apparently!
One for the 'jokes lost in translation' folder: this is what you get when you meet the requirements to fight Roll in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
Y'see, that Mega Man fella's called Rock Man in Japan, so you can probably figure out what went wrong here.
Righto. What follows is the official Gaming Hell PS3 / PSP / PS Vita Store Closure Thread.

Ah, someone asked if this was for the male characters too, and nope! In male mirror matches, it's a shapeshifting tanuki instead.
Oh good, Namco Super Heroes is still available on the internet! This is a fan-made fighting game starring classic Namco arcade characters in the style of Capcom's Marvel Super Heroes, in terms of looks anyway. Some amazing spritework here!

A few loading screens from the PS1 version of Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes. Every character in the game (except Lilith-style Morrigan, Mega War Machine, Hyper Venom and Orange Hulk) has one!
GAMING THINGS WE THINK ARE COOL!! - As well as character-specific win quotes (like the Sean vs. Sean one here), Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact has special win-quotes for when you defeat your opponent with a Super Art, with it usually being referred to by name.
GAMING THINGS WE THINK ARE... HUH?! - Reach the maximum mank in Combat School in Metal Slug X on the PS1- Super Devil- and not only does your drill instructor start getting weird, but your chosen character will now have green skin.
The Dark Awake session went well.
In Player Matches, you can play as the final boss, THE KING HAS NO NAME, and... Just look at this nonsense.

GAMING THINGS WE THINK ARE COOL!! - In The Last Blade 2, if you defeat Akari Ichijou with certain attacks, it looks like she's split and half and killed... But it's a trick she's playing on you. She then berates the other character from the other side of the screen.

In any case, fighting games dealing with mirror matches in a clever way is something I always like to see!
