I really like the idea of attackers switching to defenders and the other way round. Loved the latest demo video you posted - on what hardware? How many sprites can you get before slowdown? I remember R-type really crawling on bosses and busy segments. Yours looks smoother!

I'm coding for
#C64, but currently using the VICE C64 emulator. My sprite system can handle up to 24 sprites on screen at once, but slowdown depends on complexity of enemies as there's only so much a 1Mhz 8-bit CPU can do.
