More rust kernel hacking this evening and woo, got basic context switching! https://twitter.com/SarahJamieLewis/status/1223128935300382720 …pic.twitter.com/rQ03QBiYsG

Really liking how my little rust kernel is coming along, spent some time the last few days tidying up the networking stack, implementing a basic shared queue primitive, now also featuring prototype cpu detection and a working time widget.pic.twitter.com/uGK3ymXTLU

Oh great, the regulators are at it again. http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/110.nsf/eng/00012.html#Toc26977861 …pic.twitter.com/73GvPQ3rC4

Now hooked in the basic read-eval processing so I can lookup arbitrary IP addresses (that all resolve to the same MAC address because qemu bridge)pic.twitter.com/Kku2plHKHT

More rust kernel dev today, implemented some rough IPC so now I can do neat stuff like issuing ARP requests and async processing the response into the routing table which I can then fetch in the (very very basic) shell.pic.twitter.com/v68IIJSX3L

Did some more rust kernel dev today, broke the networking stack into modules, then stress-tested the implementation using flood ping. Seems to be holding up well now. https://twitter.com/SarahJamieLewis/status/1219858151253528576 …pic.twitter.com/PFjKetE22a

Thank you all! It was the damn IP checksums, which I didn't double check because wireshark has validation disabled by default! I can now ping my kernel!pic.twitter.com/yiWsZXCtqx

This is what the wireshark sees (both the dump from the kernel, and from wireshark listening on the bridging interface).pic.twitter.com/D2z6BA56Ep

Now with arp! and technically also icmp although that isn't quite working yet. https://twitter.com/SarahJamieLewis/status/1219503269023584257 …pic.twitter.com/j1X2GldtOv

Just spent the better part of a 4 hours trying to debug why interrupts weren't firing for received network packets despite seeing the packets in the buffer... turns out the pic8259_simple lib that "Writing an OS in Rust" uses doesn't support masking properly/at all
Finally! https://twitter.com/SarahJamieLewis/status/1219074626677956608 …pic.twitter.com/CYBuZbGXiD

In a break from work, last night I started going through "Writing an OS in Rust " and then this morning I decided to try extending what I had to support the qemu network card and it works!pic.twitter.com/OBAuShJIZ3

To add to the ongoing ridiculousness of UK Counter Terrorism - don't be going around expressing extremist views like "we shouldn't put nuclear weapons everywhere", "we shouldn't kill all marine life" or "nazis are bad" https://www.scribd.com/document/443276332/Symbols-guidance-document … https://twitter.com/SarahJamieLewis/status/1215721923994218496 …pic.twitter.com/Bo2jscTY55

As expected, green finds food by following red. Less unexpectedly is that as more green arrive at a food site red start avoiding them - eventually a threshold is reached where all the red actors "explode" outwards - preventing red getting stuck at one source.pic.twitter.com/CQG4yScqmw

I've been playing around with emergent cooperation in
#microworlds, and have come across a really nice 2-actor model with red "food-finders/green avoiders" and green "red-finders"...pic.twitter.com/JKGvoIbpJP
