I don't really know how to feel about . I left the UK 8 years ago, and with the loss of freedom of movement goes the last real argument for ever going back to live there - all that is left is to watch it descend into the shadows.

Really liking how my little rust kernel is coming along, spent some time the last few days tidying up the networking stack, implementing a basic shared queue primitive, now also featuring prototype cpu detection and a working time widget.

For all the issues in the new report, I think that Recommendation 73 really demonstrates how far removed regulators are from the realities Interent and their hubris to assume you can force a populace to engage with your media.

"No one is reading the news we consider to be trustworthy and reliable" "Well let's pour more money into that hole and force those internet sites to put our content in places where people will read it, and also regulate all the other content" Seems to be the broad strokes...

They want to put media piracy on the same level as unauthorized broadcast retransmission.

Recommendation 78: We recommend that to address piracy, sections 9 and 10 of the Radiocommunication Act — which state that it is an offence to decode, retransmit, or operate devices, equipment, or components to receive unlawfully decrypted subscription programs — be moved to the Broadcasting Act and be expanded to include all forms of media content, whether received through satellites or the Internet.

We recommend that to promote the discoverability of Canadian news content, the CRTC impose the following requirements, as appropriate, on media aggregation and media sharing undertakings:

links to the websites of Canadian sources of accurate, trusted, and reliable sources of news with a view to ensuring a diversity of voices; and
prominence rules to ensure visibility and access to such sources of news.

Harm is an ethical nightmare to define, being gay and doing crimes on the other hand are pretty straight forward (and in many jurisdictions the same thing).

And if you really think such a license is needed, then I have a proposal:

I mean...the decision you make has no bearing at all on anything, it won't significantly impact reality...but it's the principle of thing. If we going to pretend open source licenses mean anything then these things have to mean *something*.

Please don't adopt (un-reviewed) software licenses that require licensees to agree to be bound to flawed metaethics in exchange for use.

Many of you were never subject to an exam on ethics, torts, contract law & licensing during your computer science education and it shows.

Some analysis of my inbox has shown that the most reliable way to guarantee that I reply to your email is to contractually obligate me to reply to your emails.

People ask "What's the best way to contact you?" as if the answer doesn't involve explaining my email priority system, sprint planning sessions, and hundreds of post it notes that forever haunt the "backlog" portion of my kanban board.
