Disgusting that southern states still find ways to exclude African-American voters, even after the 24th Amendment banning previous exclusion on basis of ability to pay poll tax. Who can forget the hanging chads? Also, gerrymandering to carve out poor, black communities is rife.

Lol at thinking this is just southern states.
-
OK. Fair point, but worse now & historically in the south. We’re finding different ways to disenfranchise the poor & disadvantaged in the UK through introducing voter ID - need passport or photo driver’s license; many poor voters have neither. Tell me that’s not deliberate.
-
Oh it’s totally deliberate. The unique thing about the South is they’re up front in their racism but that doesn’t mean racism stops at the Mason-Dixon Line. Plenty of racism to go around in the US and it seems the UK as well. Just look at our respective leaders.
-
Sadly, yes. Brexit was fueled to a significant extent by charlatans like
@BorisJohnsonMP and@Nigel_Farage stoking up fears about immigrants. Remind you of anyone? Oddly, they are both big friends and admirers of@realDonaldTrump -
Yup. And don’t forget about
@theresa_may and the Windrush Scandal.

They are so blatant about their racism. How is this acceptable ?
-
Because they always get away with it. And since the SC gutted the Voting Rights Act many if not all southern & Republican led states have used similar tactics to disenfranchise millions of voters. Mostly POC.

Jesus. Sometimes I really hate being southern.
-
You said it, cuz. (Actually I have no idea if we are related, but whatever.)
-
We all are. I had dna testing done and cousins are coming out of the woodwork. Just vote, cousin. I did today
The South will swing left one day.

So this was supposed to show that they weren't anti-African-American, just anti-Democrat? Give me a break!
-
They essentially admitted to both.
-
Well, yes. I was amused because it reminded me of the Title VII paradigm--plaintiff shows s/he was treated differently; defendant shows legitimate non-discriminatory reason; plaintiff shows it's a pretext. Except discrimination based on likely voting behavior not legitimate. :)

This kind of thing may energize blacks to come out to vote at higher rates and backfire on the Republicans. I hope it does. Everyone: Your vote is precious. That's why they are trying to steal it.

I tend to think most of the claims of voter disenfranchisement are bull, but this one is unacceptable and shocking egregious.
-
Maybe you should reconsider your doubts in light of them thinking they can get away with it this nakedly.
-
If they're doing it this out in the open exactly what do you think went on before? We only get here when we offer them enough impunity in the first place.
-
Perhaps. I'm willing to look.
