    CORRECTION: In the previous tweet, it was noted that Jackie Robinson was the first black athlete to play Major League Baseball. He did break MLB's color barrier in 1947, but Moses Fleetwood Walker, was the first African-American to play professional baseball in 1884.

    In 1919, Jackie Robinson was born in the segregated town of Cairo, Ga. He would later break Major League Baseball's color barrier in 1947. His uniform number 42 was retired across all teams — a first for a professional athlete in any sport.
